How often does a standby generator need maintenance?

Follow the maintenance schedule in your generator’s manual. Manufacturers set service by time or by run hours, and long run times during extended outages can bring service due sooner. We’ll follow the schedule for your make and model.

What is included in generator maintenance?

We check the battery, oil, filters and spark plugs, review the controller for alerts, confirm the exercise cycle, test the transfer switch and look over the electrical connections. You get an upfront price for any repairs before we do them.

Why won’t my generator start?

Possible causes include a weak or old battery, low oil, fuel supply problems, a tripped breaker on the generator or a controller fault. Call us and we’ll diagnose it.

What is a generator exercise cycle?

Most standby generators run themselves briefly on a set schedule to keep parts moving and confirm they are ready. If yours has stopped exercising or shows an alert, it’s time for service.

Can I maintain my generator myself?

Owners can keep the area around the unit clear of snow, leaves and plants and watch for alerts. Electrical connections and the transfer switch should be serviced by a qualified technician.
