“Andy from Eggers Electric was terrific when he came to do an estimate for us.”
Estes Park has a lot of older cabins and mountain homes, many added onto over the years, plus second homes that sit empty for weeks at a time. We often find small or aging panels, ungrounded outlets, wiring from earlier additions that was never updated, and long runs to garages, studios and outbuildings on sloped lots. Because a problem in an empty house can go unnoticed, owners often ask us for a full look at the system. See rewiring and panel upgrade.
Inside Estes Park town limits, electrical permits and inspections come from the Colorado State Electrical Board; the Town handles building permits. Outside town limits, Larimer County issues both. We pull the required permits and schedule inspections with the right office for your address.
Much of the Estes valley, both inside and outside town limits, gets power from Estes Park Power & Communications, the Town's own utility. They connect service or set a meter only after the electrical inspection passes, and we coordinate that for you.
Mountain weather means outages, and in a home that is empty part of the year, losing heat can mean frozen pipes. We install standby generators sized to the loads you need and portable generator hookups with an inlet and a transfer switch or listed interlock made for your panel. A generator must always run outdoors, away from doors and windows. See generators.
We work in the town of Estes Park and the surrounding valley, and back down the canyon to Loveland.

Most visits start with the $89 Eggers Safety Check & Estimate Visit: a licensed electrician diagnoses the problem and does our 8-point Eggers Safety Inspection (not a city permit inspection): we verify grounding and bonding, spot-check outlets and switches, and visually check the panel, GFCI protection, smoke and CO alarms, visible wiring, exterior electrical and whole-home surge protection. You get a written price before work starts, and the $89 is credited toward your job when you go ahead. Call 7 days, 7am–8pm; office hours are Monday–Friday, 7:30am–4pm.
Mountain homes and cabins around Estes Park face outages and older wiring, so backup power and safety checks come up often.
With a power inlet and a transfer switch or a listed interlock made for your panel, never a cord into a wall outlet. Never run a generator indoors, in a garage, or near windows and doors.
Yes. CPSC says homes built or rewired from about 1965 to the mid-1970s may have aluminum branch wiring, and it recognizes three permanent repairs: copper replacement, COPALUM crimp connectors, or AlumiConn connectors where COPALUM isn’t available.
No. A dimmer can feel slightly warm, but a warm outlet is not normal. Unplug what’s in it, turn off the breaker if it’s safe to do so, and call us. If you see smoke or flames, get out and call 911.
If lights across the house flicker, or some get brighter while others dim, that can mean a loose neutral, which is dangerous. Turn off the main breaker if it’s safe to do so, and call your utility and an electrician right away. Flicker in one fixture is usually a loose bulb or a dimmer not made for LEDs.
A breaker trips to protect the wiring from an overloaded circuit, a short circuit or a ground fault. Unplug a few things and reset it once. If it trips again right away, trips with nothing plugged in, or you notice heat or a burning smell, stop resetting it and call a licensed electrician.
