Panel problems we fix

Call us if you see any of these. A warm, buzzing or scorched panel needs a look right away.

Breaker won’t reset

A breaker that won’t reset or trips with nothing running may have failed.

Warm or buzzing panel

Heat, buzzing or a burning smell can mean a loose or overheated connection. Call us right away.

Full panel

No room for new circuits? A subpanel or a larger panel may be the answer.

Double-tapped breakers

Two wires under one breaker terminal that isn’t made for it, often flagged by home inspectors.

Older panels with known concerns

Federal Pacific Stab-Lok and Zinsco panels have known concerns. Have yours evaluated.

Rust or water in the panel

Moisture and corrosion need to be found and fixed at the source.

Electrical panel service guide

When a panel needs repair, how we decide between repair and replacement, and what to expect in Loveland and nearby.

Signs your panel needs attention

Breakers that trip or won’t reset

Frequent tripping can mean an overloaded circuit, a failing breaker or a wiring problem. A breaker that won’t reset at all should be checked before you keep trying.

Heat, buzzing or a burning smell

A panel cover that feels warm, a buzzing or crackling sound, or scorch marks are signs to stop and call. Shut off the affected circuit if you can do it safely, then call us at 970-669-1883.

Rust, water or loose parts

Moisture in a basement or garage panel, rust on the cover, or a breaker that feels loose in its slot all need a licensed electrician to look closer.

Out of spaces

If there’s no room for a new circuit, people sometimes resort to double-tapped breakers. We check whether your panel can be reorganized safely or needs an upgrade.

Repair or replace?

When repair makes sense

Many panel problems are fixable: a single failed breaker, a loose connection, a damaged neutral bar or missing labels. If the panel is in good shape, we’ll tell you so and fix what’s wrong.

When replacement is the better answer

Some older panels show signs of overheating, have damaged parts, or use parts that are hard to find. If you’re adding an EV charger, hot tub or heat pump, an electrical panel upgrade may be the better investment.

What affects the price

The panel’s condition, whether parts are available, the number of circuits involved, and whether the work needs a permit or utility coordination. You get a written price before any work begins.

Permits and utility coordination

When a job needs a permit, we pull it and schedule the inspection. In Loveland we coordinate with Loveland Water and Power when the job needs the power shut off and reconnected at the meter.

Panel service questions

Questions? Call 970-669-1883 or email info@eggerselectric.com.

What is an electrical service panel?
It is the box (often called the breaker box) where power from the utility is divided into the circuits that feed your home, each protected by a breaker.
Can a single breaker be replaced?
Yes. A breaker that will not reset, trips with no load, or feels hot can be replaced with the correct listed breaker for your panel.
What is a double-tapped breaker?
Two wires connected under one breaker terminal that isn’t listed for two wires. Home inspectors often flag it. We correct it by giving each wire its own breaker or making a proper connection.
Can you add a subpanel?
Yes. A subpanel adds space for circuits in a garage, shop, basement or addition. It doesn’t add total power, so we check that your main panel and service have the capacity first.
Repair or upgrade?
Repair if the panel is in good shape and has room. Upgrade if it is full, undersized, damaged or an older brand with known concerns. See panel upgrades.
How much does panel service cost?
Every visit includes the repair, installation or service you called us for, plus the $89 Eggers Safety Inspection; you get a written price before work starts, and the $89 is credited toward the job when you go ahead.
