“Andy from Eggers Electric was terrific when he came to do an estimate for us.”
Loveland's housing ranges from homes near the historic downtown that are around a century old to newer subdivisions east toward Centerra and I-25. The electrical needs are very different. In the older core we still find knob-and-tube wiring, ungrounded two-prong outlets and small fuse or breaker panels; one Loveland customer's 100-year-old home had knob-and-tube throughout before we updated it. Homes built or rewired from about 1965 to the mid-1970s may have aluminum branch wiring, which the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has flagged as a fire risk at connections. In newer homes, the usual call is a panel with no space left for an EV charger, a basement finish or a hot tub.
Related: rewiring, panel upgrade, GFCI protection.
Inside city limits, electrical permits and inspections go through the City of Loveland Building Division at the Development Center, 410 E. 5th Street. The City also requires a City of Loveland contractor's license for electrical work in rental homes, multi-family and non-residential buildings. We pull the permit and schedule inspections as part of the job. Homes outside city limits are permitted and inspected through Larimer County.
Loveland has its own city-owned electric utility, Loveland Water and Power, with its own "Requirements for Electric Service." Panel and service upgrades, new meters and some EV and generator projects need coordination with the utility, which we handle for you. See generator installation in Loveland and EV chargers.
We work all over town: downtown and the historic neighborhoods around it, the Lake Loveland and Boyd Lake areas, west Loveland toward the foothills, and Centerra. From here we also serve Berthoud, Fort Collins, Johnstown and Estes Park.

Most visits start with the $89 Eggers Safety Check & Estimate Visit: a licensed electrician diagnoses the problem and does our 8-point Eggers Safety Inspection (not a city permit inspection): we verify grounding and bonding, spot-check outlets and switches, and visually check the panel, GFCI protection, smoke and CO alarms, visible wiring, exterior electrical and whole-home surge protection. You get a written price before work starts, and the $89 is credited toward your job when you go ahead. Call 7 days, 7am–8pm; office hours are Monday–Friday, 7:30am–4pm.
From our shop on W Eisenhower Blvd we handle repairs, upgrades and remodel wiring in Loveland homes of every age.
A breaker trips to protect the wiring from an overloaded circuit, a short circuit or a ground fault. Unplug a few things and reset it once. If it trips again right away, trips with nothing plugged in, or you notice heat or a burning smell, stop resetting it and call a licensed electrician.
If lights across the house flicker, or some get brighter while others dim, that can mean a loose neutral, which is dangerous. Turn off the main breaker if it’s safe to do so, and call your utility and an electrician right away. Flicker in one fixture is usually a loose bulb or a dimmer not made for LEDs.
Yes. CPSC says homes built or rewired from about 1965 to the mid-1970s may have aluminum branch wiring, and it recognizes three permanent repairs: copper replacement, COPALUM crimp connectors, or AlumiConn connectors where COPALUM isn’t available.
Common signs are frequent tripping, no open breaker spaces, an old fuse box, double-tapped breakers, or plans for an EV charger, heat pump or hot tub. A load calculation confirms it, and replacing service equipment now requires a surge protector.
A load calculation tells us. It may show you can add a charger as is, with a load-management device, or with a charger set to a lower current. A subpanel adds breaker space, but not more total power.
Yes. Finishing a basement needs a permit, and the job typically includes smoke alarms, plus CO alarms where required, for example if you have gas appliances or an attached garage. We also check that your panel has room for the new circuits.
