Who owns the electric meter?

Your utility owns the meter. You typically own the meter base (socket), the service mast and the panel, though the details vary by utility.

My meter base is damaged or loose. What should I do?

Keep away from it and call your utility and a licensed electrician. Damage to the meter base or service mast needs a repair, a permit and utility coordination.

Can I replace my own meter base?

No. Meter base work needs a permit, an inspection and a utility disconnect, and only the utility should pull or reset the meter. Never remove a meter yourself. A licensed electrician coordinates all of it.

Do I need a new meter base for a service upgrade?

Often, yes. Increasing service size usually means a meter base rated for the new service. We plan it as part of a panel or service upgrade.

Which utilities do you coordinate with?

Loveland Water and Power, Fort Collins Utilities, Xcel Energy, Poudre Valley REA and United Power, depending on your address.
